The fall issue is the largest we have produced and the first to carry a redesigned front section, which was rebuilt from scratch over the summer after a year of complaints — most of them ours.
Six features anchor the issue. Two are profiles, two are reported pieces that took the better part of a year, and two are photographic essays that run without much text because they did not need it.
The cover story runs at eleven thousand words, which is longer than anything we have run before and shorter than the first draft by a considerable margin.
