Inde Navarrette’s rise has been fast even by Hollywood standards. Now she is set to host Saturday Night Live. According to Remezcla, which reported the season’s first hosts on September 9, Navarrette will lead the October 31 Halloween episode, with Gracie Abrams as musical guest. Remezcla describes her as “the breakout star of Obsession who is set to join the Marvel Universe as the iconic X-Men character Rogue.”
For an actor who spent much of her childhood moving from place to place, it is a striking arrival.
A military kid from the Central Valley
Navarrette was born in Tucson, Arizona. Her father’s military service meant frequent moves, KGET reported in a 2021 profile. She spent much of her youth in Visalia, California, attended Mount Whitney High School for her freshman year and then moved to Los Angeles to finish high school and pursue acting. HOLA! USA reports that she was born to a Mexican father and an Australian mother.
Her early credits, as KGET listed them, included Denton’s Death Date, Wander Darkly and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Her wider breakthrough came as Sarah Cushing on The CW’s Superman & Lois. Wikipedia lists the series as running from 2021 to 2024.
The Obsession effect
What changed everything was a small horror film. Obsession, directed by YouTube creator Curry Barker, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 and opened in U.S. theaters on May 15, 2026, according to the film’s Wikipedia entry. Navarrette plays Nikki Freeman opposite Michael Johnston. Its box office run was extraordinary: The Numbers lists a worldwide gross of about $513.8 million.
Her performance was a large part of the conversation. She won the Golden Space Needle Award for Best Performance at the Seattle International Film Festival, Best Actress at the Astra Midseason Movie Awards and Best Actress in a Horror Movie at the Critics Choice Super Awards. That is unusual recognition for a genre role.
Rogue, and what comes next
The next chapter is even bigger. Marvel Studios announced in August 2026, at its D23 presentation, that Navarrette will play Rogue in X-Men, directed by Jake Schreier and set to open in theaters on May 5, 2028.
The SNL booking comes between those two milestones. Hosting the show has long been a marker of a performer’s arrival in the mainstream. For Navarrette, it will also show a comic range that her horror work and superhero casting have not fully revealed. Her Halloween date could hardly be more fitting for the star of one of the year’s defining horror hits.
A Latina lead on the rise
Navarrette’s rise also matters for representation. In a year when a low-budget horror film became a global hit, a Mexican-American actor at its center is headed for a franchise role and a place on television’s most famous comedy stage.
The episode airs October 31. Few rising performers will enter the holiday season with more momentum.
