For travelers starting in Brazil, reaching Cusco has, until now, meant getting there indirectly. That is about to change. Starting March 29, 2027, LATAM Airlines Peru is scheduled to fly nonstop between Cusco and São Paulo, according to Aviation Week, which reported the announcement on September 9. The route will operate four times a week and, in Aviation Week’s words, marks “the first direct air link between the Peruvian city and Brazil.”
Why this route matters
Cusco, the historic Inca capital high in the Peruvian Andes, is among South America’s most storied destinations. A nonstop connection to São Paulo, the largest city in Brazil, opens the Andes to a vast new pool of travelers. The route also works in reverse: a traveler in Cusco gains a single-flight link to one of the region’s great cultural and culinary capitals.
For New York-based travelers, the flight is less a shortcut than an idea for a two-country itinerary: the Andes and São Paulo, connected directly. That is a suggestion, not a product any airline is selling as a package, and schedules for routes launching in 2027 can change before the first departure.
Where to stay at each end
Both cities are represented on this year’s World’s 50 Best Hotels rankings. In Cusco, Palacio Nazarenas placed No. 54 on the extended 51-100 list announced September 1. 50 Best describes it as a property “built over ancient Inca foundations and later transformed into a convent,” one that “pairs centuries of history with modern comforts.” That layering of Inca foundations, colonial religious architecture and contemporary hospitality is, in miniature, the story of the city itself.
In São Paulo, Rosewood São Paulo ranked No. 6 on the 2026 top 50, revealed in Paris on September 15, making it the highest-placed hotel in Latin America. According to Rosewood, the hotel anchors Cidade Matarazzo, a seven-acre cultural enclave in the Bela Vista neighborhood that pairs restored early-20th-century buildings, including a 1922 chapel, with modern architecture. Its restored Santa Luzia Chapel features stained glass by the Brazilian artist Vik Muniz, per the brand.
A week of Latin American route news
The Cusco announcement was not an isolated signal. The same Aviation Week tracker logged Aeromexico’s plan to connect Guadalajara and Paris Charles de Gaulle from April 13, 2027, and LATAM Airlines Colombia’s decision to add capacity at Medellín through the end of 2026, including 63 percent more seats between Medellín and San Andrés. Taken together, the announcements point to airlines investing in routes that serve leisure and cultural travel within and beyond the region. That reading is ours.
